Senior Year! It is almost over. How was the journey? When thinking of my senior year many feelings and emotions go through my head. In one way, I feel this year drug on and it was a tough one, I kind of feel excited that I will be done with school. At the same time, it is sad and scary. It is sad to think that the days of school and friends are part of the past and are just going to be memories. Ending my senior year is also a very scary thing for the fact it is time for life-changing decisions. I have to decide where to go from here and what I truly want out of life.
After school, I plan to work at the same salon that I do now as a receptionist full-time until a chair becomes open. When that happens, I will work as a commission girl and build up my clientele to soon be on my own and rent a booth. Since I will be receiving my Cosmetology license right out of school, I will not be attending college right away. A long term goal that I have is to eventually go to spa school and get into a more spa environment.
Overall I am truly excited for graduation and the next couple weeks! Attending Hi-Point has helped me to feel a lot more secure for my future and know truly where I belong in life. It has helped me to achieve my goals and maintain a job in my field right out of high school. I couldn’t have accomplished what I have without Hi-Point!

All in all… I don’t truly have any complaints about Ohio Hi-Point. There are little things that bother me such as the rules on hair color and piercing. This bothers me especially when we are in Cosmetology and these things are a part of our career. It doesn’t  make sense why these things aren’t allowed to be seen when if we were at work in a salon it would be seen as a good thing. I understand the idea that they don’t want it to be viewed as a bad example of Hi-Point, but they could allow us to have them at a limited amount. The reason that we are not allowed to have different hair colors because it is seen as a distraction…in my opinion I think that cosmetologists should stand out to draw attention to their profession.

Even though this stuff really bothers me, it is just minor compared to the many benefits you receive from attending here. The rules are not hard to obey and most of them are for the benefit of your future or common sense. I think that OHP is a very reasonable and understanding school that has its main focus on the future of the students that attend here.

Man, have these last couple weeks been crazy!! I’m sure as you all well know, we have had many snow days in the past couple weeks. These have been very enjoyable for me, but also mean that now it is time to get to work!!!!! We have been so busy with getting things prepared in my lab to go to state board! It has come along so quick! I have been spending a lot of time reviewing all the information..and man is it a lot! Though I am scared about going so soon, I’m really excited that it is almost here.
Since I have been doing the school-to-work program I feel that I am really prepared  and can’t wait to get out there and have my own clients. It makes you realize how great of an opportunity the career center is for those our age. It helps us to get a real head start in life even while attending high school at the same time. School is almost to its end for me.. and I never will regret the decision to come to Hi-Point. I will never forget the lessons I have learned and the skills that will last a lifetime. At the same time… there is a lot of work to still be done! And, I can’t wait to finish up this school year and make it the best one yet!

Hey guys!! Wow is all I have to say! There has been so much going on… It’s crazy! We have just started our second semester. All of my classes are the same except I am now in personal finance. I’m so excited for this half of the year! It is so close to graduation and only a couple months away from getting my cosmetology license! I have been doing the School-to-Work program, which means I am working in a salon two out of the five days of the week! It really makes me excited to be in the cosmetology field and helps with hands-on experience. I assist my boss along with the other stylist in the salon. I do anything from pedicures and manicures to color and cutting. It really gives me a chance to gather all the information that I can before being on my own.
In lab, we have been doing review for state boards! We had exams last week, and it was a practice out-of-state board exam. It really helped me to feel more comfortable with the idea of going very soon. Practicing the services gave me the confidence and secure feeling that every person needs when they go. I also think that it is very important not to have too much confidence and be well prepared for any situation you might have to face. Sadly, we are almost to that point. We wait on it to come for so long, and now that it has arrived, it is very sad. The people and the memories are something that will stick with me for life. I will never regret my decision to come to OHP and will carry the skills that I have learned with me forever. But we aren’t quite to the end yet, so I am determined to make this last half of my senior year the best yet!!!=)

Hey everyone! How ya been? We have been so busy getting things done in this last week of school before break! When we get back it’s going to be a fresh new start.
Many people have probably asked you what are some goals you have that you would like to accomplish in the new year. I have been asked this question many times. It’s hard to respond to because there is so much. I want to make the last half of my senior year even better than the first. A goal I have is to finish up the school year the best I can and with the best grades I can have. I also want to make many memories. As a senior, I’m realizing that this time you wait for for so long comes sooner than you’re ready for. It’s sad to think that this is the last year we will see the teachers and friends we have made here within the last two years.
Most kids come here thinking that they are leaving behind something, or that they are going to miss out on things. Truthfully, I don’t regret my decision to come to Hi-Point at all! The teachers, the friends, and the memories are something I will take with me for the rest of my life. The skills that we have learned are lifelong and we always have this to fall back on. So my goals for the new year are not to regret a thing. To make this the best yet. Also, make wise decisions as to where to work and further education. Making decisions that will not just benefit me now, but in the future, too!

Hey everyone!!! It feels like it has been forever. We have been so busy! In my lab we have been working on so many different things. On top of our normal clients on Wednesday through Thursday, we have been practicing the many different color techniques we have learned on each other. We have also been reviewing everything we have learned to prepare ourselves for state boards! I know it sounds crazy because it is a couple months away still, but it will be here before we know it.
This year is flying by so quickly. As a lead ambassador, we have also been very busy with things such as the Taste of the Future night. We had many of the students that will be attending here next year come and see the different labs. I feel that this night was a great success because I heard a lot of positive comments coming from the sophomores. The sophomores will also have a chance to come and see a lab of their choice on Tech Tuesdays. They come and get to see the lab in the works. The students will get to experience what a day would be like in that lab and help them to make their decision more prompt. Another thing us lead ambassadors have been working on is the chili supper we are having on Thursday, December 10th from 4-7:30 p.m. This is going to help us to raise money for Relay for Life. It will be open to the public and also to the students attending OHP and their families. Even though it has been a lot of work, it is worth it! We hope this night will turn out a success, too!

So these last couple weeks have been crazy!!!!!!!!!! We have been working on our rough drafts of our senior papers. Mine is on acne, and I have learned a lot of thing like the reasons we get acne. In cosmetology we have been working on color. This past Monday we had a person from Paul Mitchell come in and give us a color class. I am excited to learn color because I feel it is a very bold way to be creative and to express oneself. I was nervous about learning color at first, but now it is a blast!
On top of all of this, we have been working on stuff for Sophomore Career Days. This is when we all go out and job shadow and sophomores from all different schools come here and tour the school and visit the different labs. Because I am a Lead Ambassador for Hi-Point I will be staying for the next two days and helping the students.
In the Cosmetology lab we have different stations set up for the different services we learn to provide. These include things such as braiding, our kits, color, perms, hand and arm massage, and paraffin wax. The sophomores will be going around to the different stations and watching us provide the services and practicing them on a manikin. It’s going to give them a chance to see what are lab is really like!

The most famous question you get asked your senior year: What are your plans when you get out of high school? It is getting time where I need to be deciding the answer to this question. I’m considering a couple different options. The first option I am looking into is going to a two-year college for business or spa management. I also plan to work in a salon part time while I am doing this. I am considering this option so that I always have something to fall back on. Business is something that is a plus in all careers. Also, if I want to own my own salon someday I will be able to have that experience under my belt. Another option I have been looking into is working at a bigger salon such as Kenneth Beauty Academy. This will help me to get further training in the cosmetology field and help to build up my cliental.

The last couple weeks in my lab we have been working with two different things. One thing we have been doing is starting hair color. I am very excited to start this because I believe it is a way to show your creativity and personality. The other thing that we have been working on is our Skills USA project. We have several different classmates that are running for different offices. We have been working on speeches to give in front of all the Cosmetology labs. Another thing we are required to do is make a commercial to play in front of all of the classes. After watching what all the candidates have to offer, we will all vote on who we think would do the best job at representing our class. This will be taking place on Friday, October 9, in the morning.

In my academic classes we have really busy too. In web page design we have been creating many web sites. In my government class we have been learning about the constitution and the amendments. English is where I have had the most work. We have been working on our portfolios and just created a resume to put in it. On top of that we just started working on our senior projects, which is going to be a huge part of this year. With all of this going on I am already learning this year is going to fly by. I’m excited and am trying to live it up while I’m still here!

So Ashley K. let one of her friends take her camera and snap some photos of life inside the Professional Turf & Landscaping program.  Great idea, Ashley K.! These photos showcase how students in this program have hands-on experience with an energy efficient greenhouse, the latest equipment, landscaping supplies and working outdoors on actual projects.  One of the things this lab is working on is creating walking paths out in OHP’s new Land Lab located across from the campus.  They also get heavily involved in landscaping projects for the community and do the landscaping on the OHP house, which is built every year by students in OHP’s Construction Trades programs.  Take a look at all the pics on the Flickr Page!
