Wow, this is my finial blog! I now have officially graduated from both Ohio Hi-Point and my home school. I now stop and think where did these years go? I now have the chance to sit at home and do nothing until the Fall!

When I stop and think about my years at OHP I cant help but smile. It has been a blast with everything from my first day up to the night that I convocated. I’m still having trouble saying goodbye to it all. I thought I wanted to be done and move on, but now I dont want to let go. My favorite memory from OHP would have to be…..well it’s so hard to choose….I guess it would be going to state competition this year. It was quite a blast with the group that went. There was never a dull moment. I’m sure Shelby can vouch for that as well. It was just a fun experience overall. I have to say that it has been a great journey, and to next years students, grab every opportunity that OHP offers you. It will be a great chance to try something new and step out of your usual box. To the new bloggers, have fun, and anything you find interesting share it because it will help others, too.

My senior journey has been great. I’m not entirely sure I want to move on past OHP, though. This year has been full of great things. I got to go on trips for Business Professionals of America and placed at state. I have had a blast being a lead ambassador. I will miss getting to do so much. As a senior, I am glad the time has come to say goodbye, but then I’m not so sure. I will miss my friends. Once I have convocated I will be attending UNOH (University of Northwestern Ohio) for Business. I am hoping to start in business and move to a dual major in marketing. I am hoping this will all go well.
OHP has helped me greatly. Coming here helped me find what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. This has helped me prepare to attend college and even get me some college credit that will transfer to my school. OHP was a great way for me to prepare for the future. I have learned the basic knowledge I need to know for my career in business. I have earned Microsoft Certification. These will help with future jobs. Overall OHP I believe was the best way to prepare for my future.

Wow, it has been forever since I have written a blog. Hi-Point and a “typical” high school are way different. Here at Hi-Point we get to use our laptops in every class. Each student has a laptop. We usually use the laptop to type notes and sometimes receive emails that contain assignments. This year I have used my computer for more than I have ever used it. At my home school I only used the computer occasionally unless I was scheduled for an online class. At OHP my lab uses our computers everyday because I am in a lab that requires it as part of our curriculum. We learn a lot about technology.

For math instead of having to buy a $40 calculator we have a program for it on our laptop. English class we have used the internet to read books instead of carrying large textbooks around. Most of the classes have all their books online or in a PDF form so all we have to do is have our computer. We use computers a lot which makes OHP completely different from a usual high school. If you like using computers and not carrying books, OHP is great for that!

So I had to stop and think about this blog. I have been having trouble because I am a very opinionated person. I guess the thing I dislike about Hi-Point really isn’t about Hi-Point. It is more about the home schools.
Most students here don’t have a reliable source to know what is going on at their school all the time. I just found out Monday when my school’s graduation is. The email system from my school also makes things difficult sometimes. I was to be inducted into the National Honor Society and didn’t find out until that day. This was because even though they all have our emails, the system wanted to send it to a different address.
With going to Hi-Point you can keep in touch, but usually for me it is only by going to my guidance counselor or by reading the announcements they send here to Hi-Point, unless you involved in something or sometimes a friend back at the home school will share information from there, too. This does vary by school, but for me, right now, my dislike would be my home school communication problems.

I’m back yet again! Everything at OHP has been going really good.  I have finished Macbeth in my English class. We were supposed to have a test, but that hasn’t happened yet becuse of all the snow days. My new class for the semester is called Success for College. This class is an online class through Owens Community College. We learn skills to help us succeed in college, prep for the ACT, and choose the right college for us. It is brand NEW this year at OHP. So far we have learned things about study skills.
In my government class we are studying civil rights. Ms. Oelker has just given us a huge assignment that will help us learn more aout the civil rights and all the events and importance of them, too.
Math…well is math. It has been going well we just learned about….well i dont know what it is called..but you get to create the formula for a something or other.
Business Administration Lab has been great! I just learned two weeks ago that I get to go to state for competition!! I won first place in two of the three competitions I was in. I get to go to state for Advance Spreadsheet Applications. The other compeition was Administrative Support Concepts. I placed first in that with over 70 people and it came down to how fast me and someone else took the test! I was so excited when I found out!!!
I’m sad that it’s my last year, but hey, I get to go out with a bang in BPA (Business Professionals of America) Region 16!
We have been working on starting medical coding in lab along with filing. We always have something to do. So far this month has been great! Between the snow days and all the good stuff happening…I hope it only gets better.

Hey guys I’m back!! I seems like it’s been forever since my last blog! We have been working hard on all sorts of things at Hi-Point. It’s mainly the time of year where we are focusing on our senior projects. My senior project is creating the website for Logan County Family and Children’s First Council. I am doing this with the help of my lab teacher and our IT teacher, Ms. Blackburn.

I started out with having to install a program on their host that would allow them to easily update their content once I was through. Then moved on to finding a template that did just what they needed at the time. Then moved on to adding their pictures and all their content. I have met with them several times since so we can check on progress and discuss whether they want any changes. Recently they have decided that the original template they didn’t like so I am in the progress of finding a new one. Templates can be extremely hard to work with because you can only change certain things. These changes may not always be something you want to change. They cause problems such as not being able to change something. I am still working out the bugs.

Overall senior projects are a big part of our senior year at Hi-Point. It is a graduation requirement that helps you show off what you really learned. Every lab does it different though. At the end of the year I get to present mine to judges to be graded. Wish me luck! It’s been really something working on this project. It has made me think about whether I really want to do web design or not in college.

Hey guys I’m back again after what seems like a while…..
Well, this year is flying by!! it is already time for 8th grade tours. I just had my first tour yesterday. it was a group from Kenton. They were pretty quiet for the most part, but man did they ask good questions when they had them. They seemed really ready to learn all about our wonderful programs and their benefits. We started at Cosmetology and slowly worked our way through all of the programs. Several students were glad to see the different labs. I think we may have another guy possibly interested in Cosmetology, which is really good because some people think some labs are just for the girls or just for the boys. That’s not the case at all!! We have guys in Cosmetology and even Health Technology! There are girls in the Auto Labs like Diesel Technology and Auto Collision, too. Everyone can go for whatever they are interested in.

We’ve been working hard at OHP. We are finishing up our senior papers before break and summing up the little tidbits of our academics. In my English class we’re finishing our papers and King Arthur. We have done quite a bit. We just finished watching the movie! In personal finance we’re working on the facts about credit cards and debit cards. We are learning how to properly use them and avoid the risk of identity theft. Government is moving right along. We are learning how we can run for president. I might just decide to be president one day. That’s everyone’s dream right? Math is all about parabolas. These are those u-shaped graph “things.” We are doing something called “completing the square.” This is where we change it from one format of equation to another so we can find the vertex. Overall, its pretty difficult.

Lab is something new all the time. We’re all ready for CHRISTMAS VACATION!!!! We can’t wait. We have planned a dinner and fun day for the last day before break. We’re planning on watching a Christmas movie and having a good lunch of homemade foods and a gift exchange. I got a fellow student in my lab. I hope i can find her something good. Well that sums everything up until next time…….

I chose to come to Hi-Point for many reasons. One was the college credit I can get with the labs I was looking at. The other was the opportunity to start a career while I am still in high school. Most of our labs are tech prep. This means that you can get college credit while in high school. This would be the main reason someone would want to come to OHP. It was a major factor for me. If that’s not good enough, there is always the fact that you can go into immediate employment after your two years with 90% of our labs. This allows you to learn skills and get an edge for the growing careers out in the world. OHP allows you to be ahead of others in all they do to prepare you.

For me, my choice was made when I heard college credit and immediate employment possible after graduation. OHP opens many opportunities also. I have taken advantage of these. I have been able to get hands-on experience for my career. I have worked as an assistant to a staff member and created different items that have come into our lab. OHP allows all their labs to get these experiences. Just last week the Health Technology students were out at a nursing home training for their STNA! Every week the Construction Trades students go out to the house they’re building. Every lab does some sort of hands-on training. These are just a few reasons to come to OHP.

This school year has started out better than I imagined. I got ahead and have started on my senior project for Logan County Family and Children’s First Council, though I am stuck for the moment. Overall everything has gone well. I have gotten student of the month for this month. Just like one would at a home school. The other student and I went with Mr. Staudter (High School Director) to Kiwanis just last week to get recognized.  It was a lot of fun. We even got certificates to put in our career passports. We also got to attend a Board Meeting to be recognized. This was a lot of fun also.

School has been flying by so far. We are already into senior projects! We have been doing a lot with OGT (Ohio Graduation Test) week going on here. I have been working on getting my research paper done for English. This week is catch-up week for most students since the nine-weeks is about to end, which is really hard to believe. It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long.

This year has started off great. I am involved in quite a few things between my home school (Triad) and OHP. I am the student representative for the Triad OHP kids. Any information they need from the home school such as dances, announcements, and even yearbooks, I pass on to the students. I am on the Student Council at Triad also. I attend meetings after school and pass along any important information. I am part of our yearbook team at Triad too. I take the pictures and do the layout for the OHP pages.  At OHP I am a lead ambassador, and, as you know, a Student Blogger.

Balancing everything can sometimes be a fun task. Student Council is after school so it’s not too hard to get to meetings. Yearbook is all online. I take pictures and upload them to the website. Being my home school’s representative allows me to do all of this. I email announcements everyday to Triad students. I took over for Nick (graduated last year). Balancing these with the homework usually isn’t too hard. Sometimes it is a matter of having to set my mind to doing homework and sitting down to do it.

Most of my lead ambassador and blogger duties don’t run into my class work. Mrs. Spain is really good about letting us know when we will miss so we can get work ahead of time so were not behind. Overall it’s not hard to balance school and activities at OHP. I just have to set my mind to it to get things done.
