I can’t believe this will be one of my last blogs, and that this is one of the last ones some will read. My senior year was more than I had ever planned for myself. I always pictured senior year being great, but it was a lot more than that. I’ve been given many opportunities this year that have made the year worthwhile. I’m headed off to Rhodes State Community College to receive my Registered Nursing license. Then I’ll be transferring to get my Bachelors in Nursing. How’d Ohio Hi- Point help me?

Honestly, I’d be so far behind if I wouldn’t have came to Hi-Point. OHP has put me far ahead of the other seniors in my graduating class from my home school. In order to get into the coursework part of the Nursing program, there is core work that needs finished in order to take those classes. Part of the core work is a computer class, in which my whole lab took at Hi Point, in which I passed. Another part is the State Tested Nurses training, in which I passed back in November with OHP. Both tests were completely free for me take, and usually costs over $500. This means out of the core work that Rhodes requires, I only have one class to take in order to get into the Nursing coursework. Out of five requirements I had all except one. I would’ve had the last one, if my COMPASS score would have been a little higher. I had almost every requirement because of Ohio Hi-Point Career Center. I will never be able to thank this school enough for giving me the amazing opportunity that I received. I not only got a great head start to the future, but I feel more prepared than I ever have for college. Out of the schooling I’ve had, OHP was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and was the very first step for my Nursing career. And as I get older, I’ll never forget what this school has done for me.

As senior year comes to a close, I think about the others that are thinking of coming to Hi-Point, and I’m a strong advocate for that choice. I hope everyone enjoys their summer, be safe, and careful! And don’t forget about the very FIRST bloggers (:

Dang! It’s been awhile since I actually wrote something for you guys!  I can’t believe March is here, time is most certainly flying by, and I have plenty to keep me busy.  Usually all I have to say about Ohio Hi-Point is always positive.  But recently I’ve been asked “What don’t you like about Hi-Point?” And in all honesty, I had to sit and think about this for a while.
I’ve never thought about what I don’t like about Hi-Point, but what I love the most about it.  The only downfall to Hi-Point that I could seriously come up with was our Senior Projects.  When it comes close to the end of the year this is the one thing that will stress me out.  For the Honors English class we had to write a ten to twelve page paper, and have a presentation for professionals in our field by April.  The students pick a topic related to their field to write and do the presentation over.  I’m currently still working on my product for my presentation.
But other than that there isn’t anything that I can complain about OHP.  I love my academics, and especially my lab.
Well, I hope everyone is doing well and is being safe in this weather we’ve been having lately.  Thanks for reading!

It feels weird getting back into writing blogs once again! Christmas break helped a lot with the senioritis that I’ve been feeling here lately.
I counted down today, and there is officially, 17 weeks of high school left!  I can’t believe how far I’ve come, and what I’ve accomplished.  I’ve been thinking a lot about Convocation here at Hi-Point.  I’m really going to miss all the teachers and friends that I’ve made in the last two years.  Hi-Point was one of the best decisions I’ve made.  Looking back now, I wouldn’t change a thing.  I’ve got a huge head start on my career path, and I thank everyone in my life that has pushed me.
Here lately I’ve gotten really excited about college! I feel OHP has prepared me for the best, and I feel I’m as prepared as I could possibly be, thanks to this school :)   I suggest to the parents and students that follow our bloggers, to really give Hi-Point a chance.  It certainly helped and prepared me for the long run.
Since it’s January, we just started a new semester.  In lab, we’re preparing to become Patient Care Technicians. How great is that? I can’t wait to see what academics have to offer in the next few months.  Class of 2010 is so close to graduation! It’s pretty obvious what’s been on my mind lately!

Dang, I can’t believe Christmas break is just next week! Time is flying by, and another year is around the corner.  There are many, many things that I have to be doing this coming year.  I have many goals to accomplish in a short amount of time.  One of the first goals of mine bringing in the new year is to take, and do well on the ACT.  Yeah, yeah I know, I should’ve taken them a long time ago.
Another goal is to keep my GPA up as high as possible.  I’ve found it harder this year to keep up my grades with the many responsibilities I hold.  I also want to do well on my Senior Project and graduate high school with honors.  College and getting scholarships are also a huge goal of mine.  I recently got accepted into one of the colleges that I was looking into, and now it’s time to get the ball rolling with scholarship forms.  Wow.  It’s a lot to handle in one year.  But I’m more prepared than ever to do what needs to be done.  I hope everyone has a nice, and safe holiday.

WOW! The last two weeks have been quite stressful for me.  We’ve been at clinicals all week this week.  But thankfully our academic teachers are very understanding, and not rushing our work to be completely done.   For the past two years I’ve loved OHP’s academics more than my home school.  The teachers are more one on one and more understanding than the ones I used to have.  The classes aren’t that full of students, which helps me especially to learn all I can.
My four academics I’m taking this year are college math, honors English, psychology, and dual enrollment anatomy and physiology.  College math is a semi-tough class, meaning once the information is taught, it sometimes takes a few days to understand and comprehend the math, but once I caught on to the information it was much easier.  Honors English has a lot of reading and writing blogs.  There’s few assignments in this class because the majority of our time is writing different blogs and discussing what we’ve read.  This class is tough.  There’s a lot of reading between the lines in the stories we’ve read that are sometimes hard to find right away.  That’s where our discussions help.
Psychology is a class where as long as you pay attention, it’s pretty easy.  Granted some of the tests are complicated, it’s an interesting class.  I personally love learning about things that affect personality and such, though, so it may just be me that finds this class easy to be in.  Then I have dual enrollment A and P.  Dual enrollment means that as long as I’m passing this class, it’s a college credit I won’t have to take at college since I’m taking it now.  I enjoy this class a lot.  It’s a more of your own pace type of class. We’re given the assignments and quizzes that need to be finished by a certain date.  In between receiving the start date and due date, Mrs. Dearth gives mini-lessons to help students understand the sections they aren’t catching on to.  I’ve been given a few mini lessons, and each and every time, they’ve helped.  Only having four academics, and lab is great.   I feel all my classes are preparing me for my nursing career.

So far senior year is going great. The emailing system here at Hi-Point has really helped out a lot to keep in touch with my home school.  In fact, the other day I had received an exciting letter and email for my academic banquet.  My 4.0 GPA last year allowed me to receive my academic letter, “K,” that will go on my varsity jacket this year.  Here recently we ordered our graduation stuff, although my home school, Kenton, was one of the schools that didn’t order through Hi- Point.  Thankfully, our guidance counselor was able to email us that we needed to stop and order.  Even though I go to Hi-Point full day, Kenton students were released early last Friday for our pep rally.  That’s something I look forward to every year, and I’m glad that we’re still a part of that.
I work part-time at a pizza shop throughout the week.  It’s usually only four days a week, and my manager tries his best to make three of those days to be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so I don’t fall back in any of my classes, which helps extremely.  I appreciate having a job that understands going to school, and work is stressful.  This year has felt a little rushed, I’m balancing everything, but there are days when I feel behind, when I’m actually not.

Woah! I can’t believe October’s already here.  When people used to tell me that my senior year would go by fast, I didn’t think it’d be this fast.
Well, my lab received some disappointing news regarding our State Tested Nursing Assistant course.  There are a few things that need to be put forth in order for our morning lab to continue with the course.  As of right now, we’re in lab three days out of the week, and the other two are spent getting important information.  Mrs. Purcell and my lab are trying to get things finished in a shorter amount of time than expected at the beginning of the year.  It has put a little more stress on me personally, but I know the ending result will be well worth it.
But within all the midst of this chaos, we’re still having our CTSO day. This year as with every year, we’ll be electing our class representatives.  Another thing personally I’ve been thinking of is exactly what college I would like to attend.  As of right now I want to go to a four-year college, but not too far away from home.  I haven’t quite found one that feels right for my taste.  There are, though, a few two-year colleges that I could see myself going to.  I’m trying to decide quickly so I can start applying ahead of time.  I’m getting more and more excited about graduating and college as the days go by.  I’ve enjoyed my last two years at Hi-Point, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
This year so far has been great.  I enjoy everything in lab, even the amount of things we learn in one day.  I remember my freshman and sophomore year kind of dreading going to school every day, but at Hi-Point my day goes much faster, and it’s easier for me to enjoy.  On another note, this week is spirit week here at Ohio Hi-Point, which as a senior I plan on participating every day.  Monday is Hawaiian day, Tuesday is Tacky Sweater day, Wednesday is Nerd day, Thursday is Decades day, and Friday is Spirit day.  And with each day, we bring in different items to help people that may need food, or clothing.

Well I’ve had a pretty good start off to my senior year.  Adjusting to my new classes wasn’t as bad as I had expected.  I had previously met several people last year, which are in this year’s classes.  I’ve also met a few others that I didn’t know last year.  In the Health Science Academy, our juniors and seniors are separated into three groups in the morning, and three in the afternoon.  Mrs. Heitmeyer and Mrs. Donnelly teach separate groups of juniors, while Mrs. Purcell is busy helping our seniors get ready to be certified, which I’m beyond excited for.
Our seniors last year came up with the idea of a senior mentor program.  We put a junior and senior together, and if the juniors had any problems, or questions, they could easily ask their mentor.  This also helped our seniors get to know our juniors.  As a senior, I’m hoping we do this again.  So far this year, I feel I’m being challenged to reach to be a better health care provider.  There’s a lot more studying to be done outside of class than there was last year.  Studying outside of class this year has helped a lot.
In our STNA (State-Tested Nurses’ Assistant) course we take several notes a day, and if they’re not being looked over every night, chances are, you may not succeed.  I take this quite seriously, and study when I feel it’s needed.  Last year and this year I feel my lab teachers were very understanding.  My lab teacher this year has very high expectations, and expects no less, so we reach to go above and beyond in the work we do.  This trait in a teacher to me is awesome.  If she expected any less, we wouldn’t be doing our best, as health care providers.

shanaHi, I’m Shana.  I’m a senior from Kenton High School, but I am attending my second year of the Health Science Academy, here at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center.  I maintain a 4.0 GPA while keeping my social life intact!  I also work several days out of the week at Michael Angelo’s Pizza in Kenton.

I’m a Lead Ambassador here at Hi-Point and also a part of the National Technical Honor Society.  In my spare time I enjoy hanging out with friends, listening to music, and shopping.
