If I had to look back and describe my senior year I would say it was a vanishing act because I honestly don’t know where it’s gone. People always tell you that your senior year of school will be the fastest year of your life and you always look at them, laugh and say yeah right but in the end I guess they were all right. I have enjoyed every second of my senior year. It wasn’t always fun with all the projects and homework, but looking back I can’t really think of one thing that I would do differently if given the opportunity. All I can say for everyone that is heading or will soon be heading into their senior year is take in every moment and take advantage of every opportunity and never let a good memory slip past. After I graduate I will be starting my first college class in the summer because it will be a pre-requisite for my nursing clinicals, which I will start in the fall at Clark State Community College. I will be going there for the next two years in hopes of obtaining my RN licensure so I can hopefully continue my education even further. OHP has tremendously helped me for the future, it has prepared me to go directly into the field of study that I want to, I am so far ahead of the game with all of the knowledge and practical experience that my lab has given me and I know that the advantage I’ve gained from my time at Hi-Point puts me in the driver seat for my future. So if I can leave you with one bit of advice it would be take full advantage of every opportunity for knowledge because one thing you pass up might be one thing you never have a chance to learn again. Thanks for reading and until next time enjoy life to the fullest.

I can’t believe this will be one of my last blogs, and that this is one of the last ones some will read. My senior year was more than I had ever planned for myself. I always pictured senior year being great, but it was a lot more than that. I’ve been given many opportunities this year that have made the year worthwhile. I’m headed off to Rhodes State Community College to receive my Registered Nursing license. Then I’ll be transferring to get my Bachelors in Nursing. How’d Ohio Hi- Point help me?

Honestly, I’d be so far behind if I wouldn’t have came to Hi-Point. OHP has put me far ahead of the other seniors in my graduating class from my home school. In order to get into the coursework part of the Nursing program, there is core work that needs finished in order to take those classes. Part of the core work is a computer class, in which my whole lab took at Hi Point, in which I passed. Another part is the State Tested Nurses training, in which I passed back in November with OHP. Both tests were completely free for me take, and usually costs over $500. This means out of the core work that Rhodes requires, I only have one class to take in order to get into the Nursing coursework. Out of five requirements I had all except one. I would’ve had the last one, if my COMPASS score would have been a little higher. I had almost every requirement because of Ohio Hi-Point Career Center. I will never be able to thank this school enough for giving me the amazing opportunity that I received. I not only got a great head start to the future, but I feel more prepared than I ever have for college. Out of the schooling I’ve had, OHP was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and was the very first step for my Nursing career. And as I get older, I’ll never forget what this school has done for me.

As senior year comes to a close, I think about the others that are thinking of coming to Hi-Point, and I’m a strong advocate for that choice. I hope everyone enjoys their summer, be safe, and careful! And don’t forget about the very FIRST bloggers (:

Juggling school and work can be slightly difficult on many different occasions. All of your “high school plans” have to revolve around your work schedule. You have to make sure you are responsible and do your school work, and you have to make sure you are professional and responsible at your job.
I work at a local supply store in many different departments. The main departments I focus on are being a cashier, sales associate, and I work on computers to help me gain more experience in my field, which is information technology. It gives me plenty of experience on working with customers and computers all at once. While having to deal with customers and their satisfaction every day it prepares me for everything that OHP is trying to teach us. They teach us to be responsible and to ensure that you are doing everything you can to make your employer/ customer happy.

What to say about Spring Break? It was one of the quickest and most exciting yet boring times in my life. The quickest parts comes into play when I woke up the Tuesday morning when we had to come back to school and all I could wonder is where did my Spring Break go. It seems like it was just yesterday that it got started.
The most exciting part comes into play because of my HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) competition that I competed in with many other Health Tech students on the last two days before break got started. We left the Thursday before break started and had our competition that day. I was on a team with three other classmates, which are Sherra Roseberry, Shana Kirkpatrick, and Jessica Abouaf, and we were competing in the HOSA Knowledge Bowl. This was our first year competing so we just figured we would go down there, find out what it was all about and bring back some information to help next year’s team.
As the competition got started we quickly realized that we could do much more than that, and after a few rounds of competition we were in the final round which we were also able to win, making us the State Champs for HOSA Knowledge Bowl and allowing us the opportunity to go to Florida this summer to compete in the National Event.
Not only did my team do well in taking the gold, fellow classmates Jessica Frazier, Abby Adkins and Nikki McNamara won gold in the medical reading competition and Kelli Sprang took the bronze in the Personal Care competition. All the success and the promise of a once-in-a lifetime competition in Florida is what made this the most exciting Spring Break ever.
As for the most boring spring break ever, I either had to work or had a track meet every day over break except for two which didn’t leave me time to relax or have any fun making it one of the most boring Spring Breaks I’ve ever had. Thanks for all your time and wish all of us the best of luck in Florida.

If I could choose to be in another program besides Health Technology, I would like to be in Automotive Technology. I say this because of all the useful skills you could acquire from a lab like that.
One thing that everyone has in common is the fact that they use cars for almost everything they do in their lives, and as everyone knows cars don’t always function perfectly. This fact is what leads me to choose Auto Tech as the lab that I would choose if I weren’t in mine because it would be very useful to have the ability to be able to work on your own car and not have to worry about every little thing that goes wrong with it. You would be able to save money and have the self-satisfaction of the fact that you don’t have to be completely reliant on someone else when something bad does come up with your car. So the knowledge and personal ability are the things that would lead me to choose a lab like Auto Tech if I weren’t in mine.

Dang! It’s been awhile since I actually wrote something for you guys!  I can’t believe March is here, time is most certainly flying by, and I have plenty to keep me busy.  Usually all I have to say about Ohio Hi-Point is always positive.  But recently I’ve been asked “What don’t you like about Hi-Point?” And in all honesty, I had to sit and think about this for a while.
I’ve never thought about what I don’t like about Hi-Point, but what I love the most about it.  The only downfall to Hi-Point that I could seriously come up with was our Senior Projects.  When it comes close to the end of the year this is the one thing that will stress me out.  For the Honors English class we had to write a ten to twelve page paper, and have a presentation for professionals in our field by April.  The students pick a topic related to their field to write and do the presentation over.  I’m currently still working on my product for my presentation.
But other than that there isn’t anything that I can complain about OHP.  I love my academics, and especially my lab.
Well, I hope everyone is doing well and is being safe in this weather we’ve been having lately.  Thanks for reading!

Oh man has it been a long time since I’ve been at school. As I’m sure you all already know this snow is putting a damper on everything. I feel like for the last two weeks I haven’t done anything but be cooped up in my house and go to work. It definitely gave me a lot of time to catch up on my sleep, look over my material I was working on in my lab and put in some extra hours at work, but no matter what I’m excited to get back to school and get back into the normal routine of things.
Coming up in March my lab is going to the state HOSA competition where I will be competing with three other students in the Knowledge Bowl. This week and a half off of school has really put a damper on our studying so when we get back to school it will be crunch time and we will have to bear down and put in some serious study hours. No matter the obstacles in the way I’m excited to finally get off my butt, get back on routine and get something done. Until next time enjoy what is hopefully the last of the snow, and be safe.

It feels weird getting back into writing blogs once again! Christmas break helped a lot with the senioritis that I’ve been feeling here lately.
I counted down today, and there is officially, 17 weeks of high school left!  I can’t believe how far I’ve come, and what I’ve accomplished.  I’ve been thinking a lot about Convocation here at Hi-Point.  I’m really going to miss all the teachers and friends that I’ve made in the last two years.  Hi-Point was one of the best decisions I’ve made.  Looking back now, I wouldn’t change a thing.  I’ve got a huge head start on my career path, and I thank everyone in my life that has pushed me.
Here lately I’ve gotten really excited about college! I feel OHP has prepared me for the best, and I feel I’m as prepared as I could possibly be, thanks to this school :)   I suggest to the parents and students that follow our bloggers, to really give Hi-Point a chance.  It certainly helped and prepared me for the long run.
Since it’s January, we just started a new semester.  In lab, we’re preparing to become Patient Care Technicians. How great is that? I can’t wait to see what academics have to offer in the next few months.  Class of 2010 is so close to graduation! It’s pretty obvious what’s been on my mind lately!

Bring on the New Year!!!! That’s the way I feel about the new year coming up. I know it’s going to be busy and hard, but I’m as ready as I’m ever going to be. When we first come back from break the first thing we do is start studying for our exams, only to take them all the very next week. Starting with the exams ought to be an interesting way to “ease” back into learning after the break.
My goals for the new year are to keep doing what I’ve been doing. I plan on keeping my grades up and continuing to study while balancing my work schedule on top of it all. One of the first things I need to do is decide where I’d like to go to college at since there’s just so many places to choose from it’s hard to decide which one would be the best for me.
I also need to start thinking seriously about my senior project.  My thoughts about it are the sooner the better. The sooner I can get it finished the better it will be for me. I’m going to try and not let it sneak up on me. So this is what I plan on doing in the new year but as I’m sure you all know hardly anything ever goes as planned, so all I can do is prepare myself to take on whatever comes my way. Thanks for your time and MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOODNIGHT!!!!!!

Hello Hi-Point fans! It’s going be a great three weeks of school. I never thought I’d say that but I think I’m going be able to make it through the next few weeks with ease. This week I’m going to see a movie on Wednesday, we have an early release on Thursday and a HOSA day in my lab on Friday. The following week we have a college trip in lab and the week after that we have another college trip in lab. So all the trips ought to ease the pain of the weeks leading up to Christmas break.

Next thing on the agenda I’m going to tell you guys all about: HOSA, which is the organization that my Health Technology lab belongs to.  It stands for Health Occupation Students of America. This is the first year that my lab has been a part of HOSA and boy are we hurting for money. When we started this we were absolutely broke, but through the efforts of the cheese and sausage sales we were able to raise money. Now we’re doing another fundraiser to gain some more money for our fund so we can compete in many more competitions at the state level. We decided to switch to HOSA in the first place simply because of the fact that it offered many more opportunities for health care competitions than our previous SkillsUSA group. We’re all very hopeful that this switch will be beneficial and that everything will work out for us in the end. As we compete in more competitions and more information comes up I’ll make sure I let ya’ll know about it. If you happen to be thinking about it make sure you wish us luck and shoot a little prayer our way. Thank you all for taking the time to read this, and I can’t wait until we can do this again.
