Wow, I can’t believe the year is coming to an end. I have graduated from my home school already and convocation is today! I have had so much fun blogging my senior year and sharing my experience at Ohio Hi-Point. I got the opportunity to share with all of you my journey through Cosmetology here at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center. Although we still haven’t gone to boards, we are going June 15th, so wish me luck! Then I’ll be a licensed cosmetologist. I hope from hearing my experience here at OHP it has helped you decide that Ohio Hi-Point is a good decision because of the head start you receive, and it is a all around good school!

Recently I got to compete in the Regional SkillsUSA competition for Cosmetology at Miami Valley Career-Technical Center in Clayton, OH. I was chosen to go because we had a competition that my class participated in and whoever got first place got to move on and compete at the Regional.
There were many different kids from Ohio Hi-Point that competed the same day in their career field. For my competition, I had to do a haircut from a picture in which i was given and a wet set with three techniques (braids, pin curls, finger waves, roller set). After the hair was dried we had to style out the wet set into something wearable and for the cut in which I was given, I had to follow a picture and style it like it. There were seventeen of us that competed at Regionals from different career centers. After the competition we went to the awards ceremony. I won the bronze medal that qualified me to go to the SkillsUSA State Competition on April 23 and 24th. Ohio Hi-Point has given me the opportunity to compete at the SkillsUSA State competition! Wish me luck!

When asked the question, “Which program would you want to be in if you weren’t in your current program?” I think I would pick Culinary Arts.
First off ,I love food!, second I like cooking. By being a lead ambassador, I learn about a lot of the labs by giving eight grade and sophomore tours. In Culinary Arts I believe everything you make you get to eat and how does that not sound awesome??
I also think Early Childhood Education would be a good program to be in. If you want to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education, I think Hi-Point is a good place to start. I love little kids and working with them also. These are the two labs I think I would have chosen if I wasn’t in Cosmetology.

It’s hard to believe we only have a couple more months left of our senior year. People always say it will go really fast, and I didn’t believe them, but I just got done with two sports seasons and now on to my third, and it’s crazy to think we’re going to be graduating soon.
What it means is we have more things to get ready for: state boards, senior project presentations, and this Saturday, I’m going to a SkillsUSA competition for Cosmetology.
Along with all of this, I have to fill out scholarships and apply to colleges. My advice to juniors, fill out as many scholarships as you can and apply early on and not at the last minute because I don’t want to admit it but I am still uncertain of what I want to do when I graduate. I have ideas but I haven’t made a complete decision yet. As of right now I’m trying to get ready to go to state boards and get my cosmetology license and then find a salon to work at.

Well….we just had what seemed to be a “blizzard” in Logan County the last few weeks and were out of school for almost a week which was pretty sweet!! While at home my mom made me sit down and think of what I want to do when I graduate. My plans after high school right now are to attend Rhodes State College and major in Business Management so one day I can own my own salon. While going to college I plan on working in a salon to build up my clientele. I’m still undecided where, but as of right now that is my plan after I graduate.
The thing that I am really thankful for is having the opportunity of coming here. I am able to follow my passion and dream of becoming a hairstylist right after I graduate while also getting an associate’s degree in business. Ohio Hi-Point has really gave me the greatest opportunity in getting me on the right path, and I’m so glad I decided to come here!!

It’s been forever since I blogged and senior year is flying by!! Before we graduate we have to present a senior project to a panel of judges. Our senior project is a paper that we have to write about something that interests us that has to deal with our lab. After writing the senior paper in English class, we have to make up a presentation about our topic to present to the judges.
I’m in cosmetology, so I decided to do my senior project on diversion of products because that is a big thing that is going on now. When people think of hair products they usually decide to purchase what’s more convenient to them. Have you ever seen the Big and Sexy Line at your hometown Wal-Mart? Diversion is getting so bad that they’re selling salon products at drugstores, etc. The reasons these products are salon products are because they are suppose to be sold in SALONS. When buying products at a salon you get the knowledge from the stylist and when you buy it from Wal-Mart or anywhere else it is usually diverted and could have been tampered with or old which makes the product not work to its potential or how it should.
I chose this topic to show people that it isn’t good to get hair products at your convenience store, but to purchase these products at a salon where you get the education about what your putting in your hair. This project wasn’t difficult because I picked a topic that I was interested in and that I wanted to learn more about. OHP makes us do senior projects to show that we are able to do a research project and present something to a group of people that we will have to do maybe later on in our life after we graduate.

Hey everyone! Well, we just got back from Thanksgiving break and we’re starting to work on chemical relaxers in my Cosmetology lab and starting to study for boards because some of us are hoping to go to boards in February!! Before break we had an acrylic class, where we learned sculpture nails and tips, which was really interesting. I didn’t think I would be interested in nails, but I was wrong because when I graduate and pass state boards, I will get my license and that lets me work on hair, skin, and nails. This gives me different things to do when working at a salon instead of always doing hair.
One thing we have coming up is a Chili Supper on December 10th from 4-7:30 during Parent Teacher Conferences. It’s a time where parents can come and visit with their son/daughter’s teachers while also enjoying a chili dinner. All the proceeds that we make will go to Relay for Life. So we hope to see you all there!!

Hey everyone! It seems like I haven’t blogged in forever. We have been pretty busy lately at Hi- Point. We just got done with Sophomore Career Days on Thursday and Friday of last week. These days are set out for the people that aren’t helping showcase their labs or lead ambassadors to go out and job shadow a place that goes with what they are studying. Many people in my lab went to different salons and really had good experiences there. I am a lead ambassador, so I stayed and helped take pictures and videos to share on our Hi- Point Journeys page.
These days are designed for students to decide if they want to come here their junior year. They get the experience of what it’s like in the different labs here. When the sophomores come here they are given a card, which has two sessions on it for their top two labs they are interested in. I remember when coming here as a sophomore I was still debating on if this was the right way to pursue my career in cosmetology. The time when I decided to come to OHP was when I attended the Career Preview night (tomorrow’s Taste of the Future event), which my parents and I got to see what it was really like and meet the instructors and got to ask the questions of if this was a good way to get my cosmetology license because I always knew I wanted to do hair I just didn’t know how I was going to get my license. I am so glad I decided to come here because when I graduate I get my license and get to work in a salon !!!

This year seems like its flying by. I keep getting asked, “What are your plans after high school?” “What do you want to do with your life?”
By coming to Hi-Point I’m going to be to able to graduate with my cosmetology license and still go to college. My plan at the beginning of the year was after graduating going to a big salon such as Charles Penzone or Kenneth’s. After going and visiting my cousin at Kenneth’s she shared with me that if you decide to work there you aren’t able to go to college because you have to go through a system of training to get into Kenneth’s and that is a six-day job where there would be no time to go to college. So right now I’m trying to figure out if I want to commute to a college and work in my home town or go to a community college and work there. Decisions, decisions. My advice is to go on college visits your junior year and try to figure what you want to do for the rest of your life that you will love so you aren’t cramming at the last minute to get everything figured out!

I have been super busy with school and homework while also playing volleyball at my home school, Benjamin Logan. Although our season is coming to an end, this Thursday night is senior night, and we start tournaments next week.
The start of school has went by really fast seeing that these are my last few times playing volleyball, and its super sad because I have grown up playing sports my whole life and after graduating I don’t plan on playing in college.
Next I will start basketball, which will be here and be gone before we all know it. When people say your senior year flies by it really does! Handling sports and school has become easy for me because I have been doing it for a long time. It really hasn’t been any different with coming to OHP because we usually have class time to do all our bookwork. Although I don’t work, playing sports is my job because after school I go straight to practices or games and then get home and do my homework, which is what each day consists of.
After graduating I’m not going to know what to do with myself because I won’t be in a gym or out on the field. Playing sports has made me become a leader and grow as an individual to learn how to work as a team. I hope by sharing my experience with you, you can learn a little more about me and my journey here, and know that you can still attend here and play SPORTS!!!
