Today was a BIG day! I went to a meeting for the Alumni and Friends Association!  I am a student representative.  We started out introducing everyone on the board and talked about what our jobs are on the board.  We then came up with some cool ideas for students that would help raise money for the scholarships that the Alumni and Friends provide.  Some of the ideas would be customizable shirts and skins for your laptop.  All the Hi-Point students might want to keep your eyes and ears open for these things to come up next year.
We also talked about selling raffle tickets for a set of two tickets to a Buckeye game in the fall of next year.  Tickets will go on sale next school year for the Purdue vs. Ohio State Game.  We then went into nominations for a new vice president, treasurer and board members.  After nominating all the new positions we moved forward to talk about some of the ways we can connect with more alumni.  The whole experience I had in this meeting was amazing.  I as a student representative am proud to serve the student body and come up with ideas that would interest the students and help out the Alumni and Friends Association!  Till the next time, my fellow readers!

It has been too long since I’ve had a chance to write to you all, but now I’m back and here to share my experiences with the college process. The first thing I had to do was pick out the colleges that I thought I should apply to, which included the ones that I could transfer my credits from Hi-Point to and the ones that included a class in the health care field. I applied to Clark State Community College, Rhodes State, and Mercy College of Nursing. Applying to the college wasn’t a very complicated process as it just involved filling out their application form, sometimes submitting an official transcript and paying the usually small application fee. But what is like getting into college without having money? I for one can’t afford to pay my way completely through college without some help somewhere along the line, so scholarships are the way to go. Scholarship applications are somewhat alike but also different from college applications. They include all of the basic personal information, but usually include a written part where you state why you deserve this scholarship, and sometimes you have to get letters of recommendation to go along with them. But preparing for college is the biggest challenge of it all, because right now all I want to do is finish up my senior year and get to the summer, but I know in the back of my mind that I have to start preparing for college so when the time comes I’m not behind in the process. But no matter what happens, going to college is in my opinion the best thing to do, getting scholarships will be an immense help and preparing early is the best way to go about it.

It’s hard to believe we only have a couple more months left of our senior year. People always say it will go really fast, and I didn’t believe them, but I just got done with two sports seasons and now on to my third, and it’s crazy to think we’re going to be graduating soon.
What it means is we have more things to get ready for: state boards, senior project presentations, and this Saturday, I’m going to a SkillsUSA competition for Cosmetology.
Along with all of this, I have to fill out scholarships and apply to colleges. My advice to juniors, fill out as many scholarships as you can and apply early on and not at the last minute because I don’t want to admit it but I am still uncertain of what I want to do when I graduate. I have ideas but I haven’t made a complete decision yet. As of right now I’m trying to get ready to go to state boards and get my cosmetology license and then find a salon to work at.
